LMO6138 4G/5G MIMO antenna an excellent choice for outdoor installations

The LMO6138 is a 2-port, dual-polarised MIMO omni-directional antenna designed for outdoor use. It covers a wide range of cellular frequencies (617-3800 MHz), which means it works across many 4G LTE and 5G bands. It is housed in a protective, weather-resistant radome and is designed to be mounted on poles, walls, or non-metal surfaces.

We have summarised some key features of the LMO6138 antenna here:

Wide Frequency Coverage - The antenna supports frequencies from 617 MHz up to 3.8 GHz. This allows it to capture low bands (useful for penetration through walls or in semi-obstructed environments) and high bands (for higher throughput in good line-of-sight). It includes “Band 71” (around 617 MHz), which is beneficial in many rural or fringe coverage areas.

Dual Polarisation & MIMO - The LMO6138 has two antenna elements with different polarisation (vertical and horizontal) to support MIMO (Multiple Input, Multiple Output). This helps in environments with multipath reflections (very common outdoors), increasing effective throughput and reliability. Even if the signal is bouncing off surfaces (trees, buildings, etc.), having dual polarisation helps ensure one path may still be good.

Good Gain Performance Across The Bands - The antenna has positive gain values across all of its operational bands. Gain helps in making the most of weaker signals. For example, in the higher bands (≈ 3400-3800 MHz), the horizontal element has up to 6.9 dBi peak gain.

Robust Physical Design - The radome is made of ASA/PC and is UV resistant. It has an IP67 rating against ingress of moisture, depending on how it's mounted. There are a number of mounting options including on a pole, wall or non-metal surface.

Short Pigtails & Cable Flexibility - The LMO6138 comes with short SMA pigtails, allowing the installer to choose the appropriate type and length of extension coaxial cable.  This is important because long or low-quality cables introduce loss, especially at higher frequencies. Being able to use high quality low-loss coaxial cables such as RF195, RF240, RF400 helps maintain performance.

Compact Size -Given the LMO6183 antenna’s robust performance, it’s not overly bulky measuring approximately 187 mm in height and 106mm in diameter (excluding mounting bracket) in its standard configuration.  This lends itself to less visual intrusion, easier mounting and less wind loading.

Some ideal installation scenarios are as follows:

Rural or semi-rural areas where signal from cell towers may be on lower bands, or where line-of-sight is partially obstructed (by trees, hills, etc.).

Temporary or mobile outdoor setups like deployable internet, security cameras or surveillance, CCTV, or gateways/Routers where you want good coverage in all directions without needing to precisely mount a directional antenna at the local tower.

Marine or coastal environments, where the durability and the weatherproof nature of the antenna is desirable. The LMO6138 lends itself to leisure marine applications where an aesthetics and RF performance go hand in hand.

Roof-top or pole installations where you can elevate the antenna, avoid obstructions, and optimise cable routing.
